South Africa Weather outlook for 21 June 2013

Posted by on in Weather

The current Synoptic forecast outlook for Friday 21 June 00:00 GMT time shows a low pressure system forming to the west of Cape Town, with a corresponding High Pressure system over the interior of South Africa and another High Pressure to the east of South Africa.

The combination of these three systems will create a channel for the cold Arctic air to be pulled in over the South African Interior resulting in a drop in temperature. The Low pressure system is also expected to travel in a easterly direction bringing strong winds to the western coastal areas of South Africa over the coming weekend. No rain is expected over the interior of South Africa, however the temperatures are expected to continue to drop over the coming week.

Russian Meteorite Explosion

Posted by on in Space

Here is what we know so far,

Friday a Meteorite entered the earths atmosphere and exploded in the sky, breaking into much smaller fragments. Early reports that the asteroid was shot down with a missile are incorrect. The Meteorite was estimated to weight around 10 tons, and be approximate 1m in diameter, rocks of this size are generally not tracked by any agency due to the sheer number and lack of risk posed to civilisation. The fragments are believed to have landed in a frozen lake with no direct damage as a result of falling debris, the damage that was caused was a result of the shock wave when the meteorite exploded in the sky, with estimates putting the explosion force 30 times greater than the force of the bomb dropped in Hiroshima in World War 2.
